About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Payroll Specialist to take ownership of our India payroll operations, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant processing for our growing employee base. This role is pivotal in scaling and streamlining payroll processes, managing vendor relationships, ensuring compliance with Indian labor and tax regulations, and supporting audits and reporting. As a key member of our global payroll function, you will act as the go-to expert for India payroll, partnering cross-functionally with People Operations, Finance, Legal, Benefits and the external vendors that support payroll operations at Highspot.

Responsibilities

  • Payroll Execution Lead end-to-end monthly payroll processing for India in partnership with external payroll vendors.
  • Ensure accuracy of inputs (new hires, terminations, bonuses, variable pay, leaves, tax declarations, etc.) and timely approvals.
  • Coordinate with internal teams (HRIS, Finance, Accounting) to align on data accuracy and timelines.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Indian payroll laws, taxation (TDS), EPF, ESIC, LWF, PT, and labor codes.
  • Ensure full compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations.
  • Support the preparation and filing for all statutory returns and reports (e.g., Form 24Q, PF returns).
  • Support internal and external audits, ensuring documentation and controls are in place and remediating any adverse findings.
  • Review and validate vendor deliverables, such as pay registers, payslips, tax filings, etc.
  • Act as the point of contact for India-based employees on India payroll-related questions.
  • Drive continuous improvement of payroll processes and controls.
  • Generate payroll reports for Finance, HR and management.
  • Partner with internal teams and vendors on system integrations, data quality, and automation.
  • Requirements

  • Minimum required 6+ years of experience leading India payroll processing and compliance with at least 2 years in a senior analyst or lead role.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Indian payroll legislation, statutory requirements, and compliance frameworks, including establishing controls and processes to maintain ongoing compliance.
  • Experience with Cloud pay and Workday required.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and handle confidential data.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, particularly focused on.
  • Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Payroll certification (e.g., NIPM, APA) is a plus.
