The Hermeus Security team is responsible for day-to-day security operations across the corporation enterprise.

The

Security Classification and Education Specialist plays a key role in ensuring organizational compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) security requirements and the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM). This position focuses on interpreting and applying Security Classification Guides (SCGs), developing internal security policies, and overseeing the company’s security education and training program. The specialist will design, deliver, and update training materials to promote awareness of classification standards and federal regulations while providing expert guidance to employees. The role combines deep knowledge of DoD security frameworks with strong communication and instructional design skills to foster a culture of compliance and safeguard classified information.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and interpret Security Classification Guides (SCGs) issued by the Department of Defense (DoD) to ensure compliance with 32 CFR, National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM) requirements.
  • Develop and implement internal resources, policies, and procedures based on SCG interpretations to guide classified information handling within the organization.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of corporate publications, documents, and materials to verify adherence to SCG standards and identify any potential classification issues.
  • Serve as the lead for the company's security education and training program, designing and delivering comprehensive training modules on industrial security topics, including 32 CFR, NISPOM compliance, classification guidelines, and best practices.
  • Present security training materials to employees across the organization, facilitating sessions to promote awareness and understanding of security protocols.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate security education into ongoing operations, ensuring alignment with government program obligations and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor and update training programs in response to changes in DoD policies, SCGs, or NISPOM updates to maintain program effectiveness.
  • Research current trends and network with partner agencies and organizations to develop relevant and current training materials.
  • Provide guidance and support to employees on classification-related inquiries, fostering a culture of security compliance.
  • Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Security Management, Criminal Justice, or a field related to above responsibilities (or equivalent experience with related responsibilities).
  • Active Top Secret security clearance.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial security, document review, education, with a focus on NISPOM compliance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of DoD Security Classification Guides (SCGs) and their application in a government program environment.
  • Experience conducting security audits or compliance reviews of corporate documents and publications.
  • Experience in developing and delivering security training programs, including curriculum design and presentation skills.
  • Strong understanding of federal regulations governing classified information, including Executive Order 13526 and related directives.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and training development tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex security concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Master's degree in Security Studies, Criminal Justice, Intelligence, or a related discipline with 10 years job related experience.
  • Industrial Security Professional (ISP) or Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) certification.
  • Prior experience as a Facility Security Officer (FSO) or in a similar role within a government program setting.
  • Familiarity with e-learning platforms, Learning Management Systems (LMS) and other tools for creating interactive security training modules.
  • Proven track record of leading security education initiatives.
  • Strong analytical skills for interpreting evolving DoD policies and adapting training accordingly.
  • Additional Requirements:

  • Must be available to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed to support critical milestones.
  • Must be willing to travel to other Hermeus offices, and partner locations as needed.
