The Manufacturing Team at Hermeus are the boots on the ground. We have a vast array of experiences ranging from welding, additive, tube bending, machining, integration, and avionics. We are a lean team who are responsible for building a vehicle that will fly. We provide crucial design feedback to our engineering team and can rapidly iterate on design and assembly.

As a CNC Machinist, you’llbe responsible foroperating and setting up CNC equipment for precision manufacturing, along with a strong knowledge of machine maintenance and troubleshooting. This role is crucial to ensuring high-quality production output, minimal downtime, and adherence to strict aerospace/manufacturing standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Set up, adjust, and operate CNC mills, lathes, or multi-axis machining centers (Okuma, Haas, Doosan, etc.).
  • Load and secure materials, verify part programs, and inspect first-piece setups.
  • Perform tool offsets, work offsets, and minor program edits as needed to ensure part conformity.
  • Inspect parts using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, CMMs, bore gages).
  • Maintain strict adherence to engineering drawings, tolerances, and quality standards
  • Document inspection results and communicate deviations promptly.
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance tasks such as lubrication, coolant checks, and filter changes.
  • Troubleshoot common machine alarms, tool breakages, and spindle/load issues.
  • Follow all company safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work area.
  • Suggest process or tooling improvements to increase efficiency and part quality.
  • Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma, associate degree, or equivalent certification
  • Strong communication skills; ability to read, interpret, and provide feedback on technical documents
  • Mechanical aptitude with strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to train operators on machine setup and operation
  • Physically capable of lifting 50 lbs, standing for 8+ hours, and performing bending, crawling, and maneuvering in tight spaces
  • Comfortable with repetitive motions, handling tools, and working in environments with moderate noise
  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends as needed
  • Ability to work independently with excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with waterjet or laser cutting equipment
  • Familiarity with basic CAD/CAM/Flat Pattern Programs (Teamcenter, NX, TruTops Boost, IGEMS)
  • Experience operating manual and/or CNC machines
  • Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution Systems or experience executing to work instructions
  • Familiarity with blueprint reading
  • Familiarity with GD&T and tolerancing
