As a Tax Manager, you will lead and oversee all aspects of our tax preparation and compliance functions. This position reports directly to the Senior Controller and works closely with Investor Relations and the Executive teams. This role will be responsible for ensuring compliance, guiding tax planning and strategy, reviewing complex returns, and advising on tax implications of key business decisions (e.g., property dispositions). The ideal candidate will combine leadership, communication skills, business acumen, and strong technical expertise regarding complex entity structures, limited partnerships, joint ventures, and private equity-backed investment funds.
Responsibilities Tax Compliance & ReportingLead and manage all tax preparation and compliance functions for various entities.This includes, but is not limited to, income, sales, excise, property, and pass-through taxes.Review and ensure accuracy of tax filings in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.Ensure timely payment and proper accounting for estimate, extension, balance due, and pass-through withholding tax payments. Coordinate preparation and filing functions with public accounting firms, external auditors, tax authorities, and internal teams.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax regulations and legislation affecting the organization.Assist in preparing and reviewing financial statements and supporting schedules for tax purposes.Oversee the internal preparation and compliance with all sales, excise, personal property, and other pass-through taxes as applicable. Lead tax audit responses and represent the company in discussions with taxing authorities.Leadership, Governance & Cross-Functional CollaborationServe as primary internal tax subject-matter expert and advisor to senior leadership.Manage and mentor internal staff and coordinate external resources.Partner with accounting, finance, legal, and operations to align tax strategy with business priorities.Develop and maintain tax policies, procedures, and internal controls.Research and interpret complex tax laws and regulatory changes; advise leadership on potential impacts.Partner with Finance and FP&A on tax forecasting and cash flow projections.Collaborate closely with Investor Relations and Executive teams on tax-related matters.Identify and implement process improvements or automation opportunities within the tax function. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree (Accounting, Finance, or related field) required; advanced degree (e.g., MAcc, Master's in Taxation, MBA) desirableExperience: 5+ years of progressive tax experienceCertifications: CPA and/or EA preferred but not requiredSkills:Prior public accounting experience is required (or a mix of public + industry)Demonstrated experience in preparing, reviewing, and managing complex tax returnsStrong knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and local tax laws, with the ability to interpret evolving regulationsExperience with tax planning, forecasting, and scenario analysisExperience handling property and sales tax matters is a plusFamiliarity with tax accounting (ASC 740) and tax provision processesStrong technical research ability, analytical skills, and attention to detailExcellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to convey complex tax issues to non-tax professionalsLeadership capabilities: ability to supervise, mentor, and manage internal teams or external resourcesProficiency in tax software, research tools, and Excel; experience with ERP/accounting systemsAbility to manage multiple deadlines in a dynamic environmentAdditional Requirements: You can pass a criminal background check
