As a Staff Accountant, you will assist in bank reconciliations, assist with preparing and distributing monthly financial reports, prepare monthly journal entries, manage month-end processes, review and analyze general ledger accounts, review and process resident security deposit refunds, review and approve company expense reports, assist with annual budget preparation, assist with the annual financial audit, and take on various tasks and projects as assigned. The time allocations mentioned below may vary depending on the company’s needs.
Responsibiliites Maintain Financial Records (~25% of time)Prepare/review monthly community and fund financial statements (income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements) and ensure they comply with GAAPPrepare budget vs. actual variance reportsMaintain weekly/monthly financial reports and review for accuracy and completenessAssist with the annual external auditReview the AP aging and ensure vendors are paid on-timeMaintain the general ledger and review account details on a regular basisMaintain a working knowledge of community mortgage/escrow/reserve agreements, Management Agreements and real estate tax and property insurance assessments to facilitate timely and accurate processingAssist with investor capital accountsAssist with Month-End Close (~40% of time)Assist with bank reconciliations as directedPrepare monthly journal entries to record revenue, payroll, property management fees, and other accrued expensesReview accounts payable and expenditures for proper expense classificationReview and approve company expense reportsReconcile prepaid rent, property debt, security deposit refunds or liability, and accounts receivable for each propertyRecord monthly debt serviceReconcile restricted cash to lender statementsRecord borrower payments on note receivablesRecord prepaid expenses and amortize over the service periodRoll forward fixed assets and reconcile to the GL Record capital contributions and distributions Participate in monthly financial performance reviews with operations teamsOther (~30% of time)Assist Community Managers and Field Leadership, Cap Ex Team, and Business Ops group with accounting activities, budgets, payment tracking, and general inquiriesTake on projects and other tasks as assignedEffectively navigate Havenpark systems and processes (Manage America, Divvy, Sage Intacct, etc.)Team Support and Leadership (~5% of time)Cultivate and maintain relationships within your team and with key cross-functional departments within the companyConsistently execute Havenpark’s standard operating procedures and policies to achieve full operational excellenceDemonstrate Havenpark’s core values through interactions with coworkers, lenders, and other 3rd partiesCommunicate with team members at all levels (i.e., field staff, home office staff, senior management, etc.) regularly to align company priorities and goals Qualifications EducationMinimum of bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related fieldSkills & ExperienceFamiliar with accounting terminology and reconciling accountsStrict attention to detail and qualityExcellent Excel skillsExceptional analytical skillsAbility to be organized and detail-oriented and to work efficiently and accurately under pressure and in a fast-paced environmentSelf-starter who can identify a need, investigate a solution, and build a plan to address that needStrong ability to listen and communicate effectively through verbal and written forms with both internal employees and external customersGoal-oriented with the ability to effectively prioritizeThe ability to use strong judgment and problem-solving skills when making decisionsSelf-motivated and able to work with minimal supervisionAbility to collaborate with a diverse group of employees to achieve shared goals Additional Information We offer our employees a golden work experience including a competitive salary, comprehensive health benefits, generous PTO, paid holidays, a 401(k) with a 6% company match, and above all infinite opportunities to learn, develop and sharpen their skills.
