We are growing our Hardware engineering team and looking for world-class techs to help us develop, launch, and maintain cutting edge technology like the CarePod.

Note: This is a contract agreement not full-time employment, but there's enough work to fill up your days and weeks. Most contracts are for multi-month projects and we give project preference to contractors who have worked with us in the past.

What you’ll do

  • Assemble and install Forward hardware at a new location (structures, low voltage wiring, IT rack, electromechanical components, skins/surfaces, and furniture)
  • Test components to verify that they meet their specifications or other QC requirements.
  • Repair/replace broken hardware or conduct preventative maintenance at an active site Follow documentation, diagnose, and creatively solve issues to get units back to fully functional. Partner with engineers to solve issues we haven’t seen before
  • Document issues and fixes, and write document revisions to improve install and repair efficiency
  • Prototype new concepts: Build simple prototypes out of wood, metal, foam and other basic prototyping materials. Wire, solder, and assembly low voltage components such as IT components, AV components, LED lighting, and microcontrollers/PCBs (Arduino ESP32, etc.)
  • Follow all company procedures and safety policies. Contribute to improved workplace safety
  • Work cohesively and seamlessly with coworkers to accomplish the objectives above with high quality and consistency
  • We will provide project scope and instructions, but you need to provide your own tools and manage your time to meet the project objectives in designated time. You will be responsible for purchasing needed tools you don’t currently have
  • What we're looking for:

  • You have experience performing on-site maintenance and you know your way around a construction site (safety best practices, communication best practices, etc.)
  • You have excellent handyman, power tool and hand tool skills: drill, multitool, table saw/circular saw, house paint and touch up, etc.Bonus points if you have low voltage experience: low voltage wiring, installing LV/IT/AV devices, debugging LV/IT/AV devices, soldering, etc. Bonus points if you have machine shop experience: mill, lathe, press break, grinding wheel, etc.
  • You have experience creatively solving mechanical and low voltage problems in the field: attachment issues, physical interferences, wiring issues, etc.
  • You have worked with different materials (metal, plastic, composites, wood, etc.) and manufacturing techniques (machining, molding, thermoforming, bending, secondary finishes, etc.)
  • You are available to work flexible shifts, including evenings and weekends. And you are available to spend up to 75% of your time at sites outside of the San Francisco Bay Area (our headquarters). Most trips are planned 3-4 weeks in advance. Some trips require flexibility given other dependencies like procurement and shipping
  • You can lift 50-75 pounds in order to move large parts
  • You are an excellent communicator
  • You can read, write, and use a computer to revise word documents
  • You have a valid driver's license. Bonus points if you have a forklift certification
  • You have a record for safe work, and you follow all company procedures and safety policies
  • You have an established entity/business (LLC, etc.), or are interested in setting up an entity/business
