Join Focused as a Mechatronics Engineer and help shape the “fuel” of the future. We are looking for a motivated professional with a background in robotics or mechatronics to join our dynamic team, contributing to the manufacturing, planning, and design of advanced solutions for fusion energy. In this pivotal role, you will develop high-precision technologies for handling, characterizing, and manufacturing fusion targets under challenging vacuum and cryogenic conditions. What You’ll Do:

  • Lead, organize, or support projects from initial concept through realization and beyond

  • Conduct concept studies and risk assessments for emerging technologies

  • Set and gather requirements for projects

  • Design control systems, complete machines, and verification equipment

  • Oversee the commissioning of designed products

  • Collaborate with the team to develop novel solutions


Who You Are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechatronics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, robotics, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)

  • Prior job experience is a plus but not mandatory

  • Fluent in English (both spoken and written)

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design theory, especially motion systems and robotics

  • Extensive experience with CAD design

  • In-depth understanding of mechatronic systems

  • Basic knowledge of electrical design and components

  • Basic programming skills in C++ and/or Python

  • Familiarity with ROS/ROS2 preferred

  • Experience with FEM analysis (structural and thermal) is a plus

  • Hands-on skills for assembling machines, robots, and test equipment

  • Ability to be on-site in Darmstadt for critical project phases is required

  • Excellent communication skills and a clear, concise communication style

  • Ability to work independently and remain goal-oriented

  • Methodical, organized, and proactive in problem-solving and decision-making

  • Strong hands-on mentality with attention to project details

  • Adaptable with a startup mindset, thriving in change

  • Collaborative team player who enjoys partnering with colleagues to achieve shared goals
