We’re looking for a first class Product Design Lead to own product design and UX at Float and help us build products. This is a unique opportunity to lead product design for one of Canada’s fastest growing fintechs.
Float’s a product-led business, and as Product Design Lead, you’ll have complete ownership of your area of product and lead the design team across other product squads.
Split your time between being a key contributor within a product squad responsible for delivery against a product roadmap and being a leader for the Product Design function at Float as a whole
Owning product design at Float, providing a strong viewpoint on your vision for design at Float and help level up design, design knowledge and design aesthetic at Float
Providing mentorship and coaching to our team of amazing designers
Representing design at Float in all key meetings and partner with key stakeholders (product managers, engineers, marketing, sales etc.) across the business to implement product design changes and peer reviews with engineers
As a contributor on a product squad, you’ll gain a deep understanding of our customers and their challenges through our customer discovery stages and translate that knowledge into our product design, UI and UX as well as create new frameworks for approaching user analytics
You’ll need to navigate the scale between minutia and big-picture. You’re intimate with the end-to-end experience of design objects and how those objects translate into business value. You’ll manage design projects from beginning to end and ensure design efforts meet both customers' needs and business goals

You’ve got the experience. You have 7-10+ years of experience doing product design for B2B (preferred) or B2C products. Experience with business payments, banking and finance is a bonus. You’ve owned product design at a growing startup, have experienced the growing pains of scaling a product and product design team before and want to join another early stage company to do it all again. You also have an outstanding design portfolio demonstrating wider strategic design thinking in your projects and understand modern front-end engineering tools and practices.
You’re motivated by being a leader. You have previous experience leading teams of product designers. You love mentoring and coaching other designers and are able to maximize the potential of your design team. You love (and are great at) working in close collaboration with product managers, engineers, product ops, marketing, sales etc. An excellent cross-functional communicator with the ability to influence multiple stakeholders, you’re able to navigate any natural tensions between various groups.
You love the world of product. You are obsessed with product design, have a customer centric approach and love customer research. No stranger to an Agile environment, you love the craft of shipping software and take pride in the outcome. You have no qualms convincing stakeholders of the efficacy of design principles, advocating design thinking and the value it brings to the business.
You believe the customer comes first. You’ll advocate endlessly for our customers, and have a natural curiosity to understand their needs and are obsessed with customer research. You’re also an excellent communicator, confident writer, and speaker and can convey the needs of our customers and your vision succinctly and clearly.
You are action oriented. You are ready to roll-up your sleeves to get building and want to see your design vision in our product. You have an understanding of how long it takes to get a product design idea into a product and know who to work with and how to get it implemented and are comfortable with overseeing all aspects of a project.
You are a designer that thinks and acts like a product owner. At Float, we have a strong belief that product designers should be operating like product managers, have a deep customer understanding and be accountable not only for the look of the product but also its overall success.
