Overview

Fastly is seeking a Staff Engineer - Edge Applications to help design and build scalable edge logic for the Fastly CDN. You will work across teams to deliver high-performance edge software that powers Fastly's global network.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, test, and deploy edge applications that run on Fastly's edge network
Collaborate with platform, SRE, and product teams to improve performance, reliability, and security
Mentor and guide other engineers, participate in code reviews, and help shape technical direction
Investigate production issues, drive root-cause analysis, and implement robust monitoring and observability

Requirements

6+ years of professional software engineering experience
Deep expertise in systems programming and distributed systems
Proficiency with Rust, C++, or Go; strong networking knowledge
Experience with Linux/Unix, performance profiling, and debugging
Understanding of CDN/edge computing, HTTP/2/HTTP/3, TLS, and caching
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (Master's preferred) or equivalent
Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Nice to have

Experience with Fastly or similar edge compute platforms
Knowledge of Kubernetes and modern deployment strategies
