Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager – Application DBA to lead and manage a team of Application DBAs supporting mission-critical enterprise applications. This role requires deep expertise in database technologies, performance tuning, and application support, along with strong leadership and stakeholder management capabilities. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, operational leadership, and a client-centric mindset to drive service excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team of Application DBAs across multiple projects and platforms for a key client.
- Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and business teams to ensure optimal database performance and reliability.
- Oversee schema design, query optimization, and database object management.
- Drive performance tuning initiatives and troubleshoot complex database issues.
- Manage deployment of database changes during application releases.
- Define and implement best practices for database development and support.
- Support capacity planning, scalability, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Provide strategic input on database architecture and technology roadmap.
- Automation of DBA best practices and collection process.
- Working with clients on issues, requests related to projects & ongoing items.
- Working proactively and reviewing high level project requirements and deliverables.
- Lead & guide the team during major incidents & Outages.
Client Engagement & Service Delivery
- Serve as the primary liaison for clients on infrastructure services and operational matters.
- Ensure proactive communication regarding service performance, incidents, and improvement initiatives.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, addressing needs and concerns with agility.
- Translate client requirements into effective infrastructure strategies and solutions.
- Ensure high availability, reliability, and disaster recovery/business continuity across hybrid environments.
- Lead IT operations functions including incident, problem, change, and capacity management.
- Drive standardization, automation, and continuous improvement across service delivery.
- Lead client governance meetings, service reviews, and performance reporting (SLAs, KPIs, metrics).
- Ensure timely resolution of client issues and maintain high levels of satisfaction.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 15+ years of progressive experience in Database Administration with at-least 10 years in Application DBA role
- Strong communication skills to engage effectively with global clients and internal stakeholders.
- Proven experience in managing teams and delivering large-scale enterprise solutions.
- Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
- ITIL certification preferred;
Required Technical Skills:
- Excellent understanding of SQL Server Technology (builds, upgrades, patching, migrations, troubleshooting multiple versions of SQL Server)
- Experience with automation using PowerShell or a scripting language is a must.
- Experience of SQL Server database administration in versions ranging from 2008 to current versions.
- Experience of configuring and administering log shipping, mirroring, clustering and Always On availability groups.
- Experience with SQL Transaction replication in complex environments, SQL Performance Tuning and identifying the bottleneck.
- Experience in migrating server databases from on-premises environments to the public/private cloud.
- Knowledge of other Database technologies such as Postgres or cloud native databases is desirable.
- Excellent technical awareness of IT server infrastructure
- Working knowledge of tools, Ansible, Ivanti, Python.
- Must have excellent communication skills since working directly with the client is a significant requirement of this position.
- Performance Tuning: Deep understanding of query optimization, indexing strategies, and execution plans.
- Schema Design: Experience in logical and physical database design for enterprise applications.
- Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Hands-on experience with tools like OEM, SQL Profiler, pgAdmin, etc.
- Security & Compliance: Understanding of role-based access control, data masking, and audit logging.
- ITSM Tools: Familiarity with ServiceNow or similar platforms for incident and change management.
Desired Skills:
- Experience in Powerbuilder & Powerdesigner preferable, or similar technologies
- BMC Topaz Workbench or other data obfuscation tools.
- NetBackup/Commvault, SQL Sentry, Terraform
- Knowledge of the ITIL framework Skills
- Ability to work independently, analyze the requirement, and provide solutions.
