Expert Mainframe Systems Programmer- zOS

Overview

We are seeking an Expert Mainframe Systems Programmer specializing in IBM z/OS to join Ensono's remote team. The successful candidate will own the maintenance, performance, and security of enterprise z/OS environments for client workloads.

Responsibilities

• Design, install, configure, and maintain IBM z/OS and subsystems (JES2, RACF, SMP/E, SDSF, etc.).
• Plan and execute z/OS upgrades and remote maintenance activities.
• Implement and enforce security policies using RACF and related tooling.
• Tune performance, perform capacity planning, and optimize system resources for mainframe workloads.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts and workflows (REXX/CLIST, etc.).
• Lead incident response, perform root cause analysis, and drive continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with application teams (CICS, DB2) and hardware/infrastructure groups.
• Document configurations, runbooks, disaster recovery procedures, and change records.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of hands-on experience in IBM z/OS mainframe systems programming.
• Deep knowledge of JES2, RACF, SMP/E, SDSF; experience with CICS/DB2 is a plus.
• Strong scripting and automation skills (REXX, CLIST, JCL).
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.
