The Head of the Duolingo English Test in Japan is a senior, strategic leadership role responsible for defining and executing the product and business strategy for the Duolingo English Test in the Japanese market. This remote role partners with product, partnerships, marketing, data science, and regional teams to drive adoption, quality, and business results while delivering an exceptional experience for test takers, institutions, and partners in Japan.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute the product and business strategy for the Duolingo English Test in Japan.
- Lead cross-functional teams (Product, Engineering, Data, Marketing, Partnerships, Customer Support) to implement initiatives.
- Build and manage relationships with universities, testing centers, and partners in Japan.
- Drive growth metrics such as test-taker volume, revenue, retention, and NPS.
- Oversee P&L and budget; set pricing and packaging strategy.
- Hire, develop, and retain a high-performing team and cultivate a results-driven culture.
- Collaborate with regional leadership to align on go-to-market and regulatory considerations in the Japanese market.
Requirements
- 10+ years in product, operations, or leadership roles within education technology or testing domains.
- Proven track record of scaling complex programs internationally and strong business acumen.
- Deep understanding of the Japanese education sector and regulatory landscape.
- Experience in cross-functional leadership, data-driven decision making, and stakeholder management.
- Excellent communication skills in English and Japanese.
