Overview

Duolingo is seeking a driven, strategic leader to serve as Director of Social Media. You will shape our global social media strategy, voice, and presence across platforms, and lead a team to drive engagement and brand growth.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute global social media strategy across platforms (e.g., X/Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn) to support brand goals and product launches.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing social media team; mentor editors and managers.
  • Own the content calendar, creative direction, and localization for key markets.
  • Oversee paid social programs, influencer partnerships, and collaborations with creators.
  • Monitor performance, generate insights, and optimize campaigns based on data.
  • Collaborate with product, brand marketing, PR, and regional teams to ensure consistent messaging.
  • Establish brand voice governance, crisis management guidelines, and community standards.
  • Experiment with emerging formats and channels to maximize impact.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in senior social media, marketing, or brand leadership roles with a track record of impact at scale.
  • Experience leading and developing teams and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Deep knowledge of major platforms (Twitter/X, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn) and paid social.
  • Excellent storytelling, written and visual communication, and brand strategy skills.
  • Data-driven with proficiency in analytics tools to measure and optimize performance.
  • Ability to manage fast-paced calendars and collaborate across functions in a global context.
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
