About the Role:
As a Staff Data Scientist, you will set technical direction for optimization and predictive capabilities in MetOptima and lead high-impact initiatives from concept to production. You’ll define the strategy for modeling mineral processing plants - including milling, flotation, and leaching - while pioneering new optimization methods and de-risking advanced techniques before productization. In this role, you will work closely with Product, Engineering, and Mining & Process Engineering experts to transform innovation into production-ready solutions.
What You’ll Do Set technical direction for optimization and predictive modeling capabilities in MetOptima.Define a strategy for modeling mineral processing plants, including milling, flotation, and leaching, together with Mining & Process Engineering experts.Pioneer new optimization methods and de-risk advanced techniques through rapid prototyping and experimentation.Lead high-impact R&D initiatives from concept to prototype, ensuring scalability and product readiness.Collaborate closely with Product and Engineering to integrate innovations into production.Mentor and support other data scientists in advanced modeling and optimization practices. What You Bring 8+ years in applied machine learning or optimization (or 6+ with a PhD), with experience in R&D or advanced modeling.Deep expertise in time-series modeling and at least one of: constrained optimization, control systems, Bayesian optimization, or causal inference.Strong proficiency in Python, with experience in production ML fundamentals (testing, CI/CD, monitoring, feature management).Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure preferred) and orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow).Excellent ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics) required; Master’s or Ph.D. preferred.Proficiency in English.
