Senior DevOps/Systems Engineer (On-prem & AWS) – Tucows Domains

About the role

We are seeking a Senior DevOps/Systems Engineer to design, implement, and operate scalable on-premises and AWS infrastructure for Tucows Domains. This remote-friendly role requires strong Linux, cloud, and automation skills, and the ability to work with cross-functional teams to ensure reliability, security, and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and manage on-premises infrastructure and AWS environments.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, configuration management, and IaC tooling (Terraform, Ansible, etc.).
  • Monitor systems, respond to incidents, perform root cause analyses, and implement durable fixes.
  • Collaborate with Platform/SRE teams, developers, and security to improve reliability and security postures.
  • Develop automation for provisioning, deployment, and scaling; optimize costs and performance.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to best practices and documentation.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of DevOps, SRE, or Systems Engineering experience.
  • Strong Linux administration and scripting skills (Bash, Python).
  • Experience with AWS and on-prem infrastructure; hybrid cloud experience a plus.
  • Proficiency with Terraform/CloudFormation, Ansible or similar config management tools.
  • Experience with containers (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
  • CI/CD experience (Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI, etc.).
  • Monitoring and incident response experience (Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch).
  • Networking fundamentals, security best practices, and incident management skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.

Nice to have

  • Certifications (AWS, Linux) and knowledge of security compliance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Windows Server environments and hybrid scenarios.
