Deputy Editor, Future Perfect

📋 Description

• Manage and edit three reporting fellows; shape ideas and publish copy.
• Provide journalism training and coaching for early-career reporters; brown bag sessions.
• Oversee recruitment and selection of three reporting fellows; manage applications and interviews.
• Oversee and edit Future Perfect’s twice-weekly newsletter; ensure quality.
• Support day-to-day editorial operations: calendars, gaps, Vox coordination, edits.
• Full-time, 16-month role.

🎯 Requirements

• At least 3 years of full-time editing experience.
• Clear POV on coaching writers, esp. early-career reporters.
• Strong story judgment and editing range; move to clear structure.
• Comfort with web publishing: urgency with accuracy.
• Enthusiasm for core areas: AI, philanthropy, global health and animal welfare.
• Organized, self-starting; able to manage multiple moving parts.
