Daylight is seeking a Protocol Engineer to design and implement secure, scalable networking protocols and systems. This role focuses on building robust communication primitives that power Daylight's products and services.
Role Overview
As a Protocol Engineer, you will own protocol design from specification through implementation, performance tuning, and deployment. You will influence architecture, drive reliability, and help set technical standards for security and performance.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and evolve networking and transport protocols
- Analyze performance, latency, and reliability; drive optimization efforts
- Collaborate with security, platform, and product teams to ensure robust protocol designs
- Develop tests and tooling to validate protocol correctness and resilience
- Document protocols, interfaces, and design decisions for cross-functional teams
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical direction
Qualifications
- Experience in protocol design, networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, TLS), and distributed systems
- Proficiency in systems programming languages (e.g., Rust, C/C++, Go)
- Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
