Overview

Dave is one of the leading US neobanks and a pioneer in financial services, using disruptive technology to provide best in class banking services to millions of members at a fraction of the cost compared to incumbents. The anchor of our banking value proposition, ExtraCash, provides up to $500 of short term, interest free advances to members within minutes of joining. The speed to value, access and pricing of ExtraCash compared to traditional overdraft sets us apart from incumbents and is a key to our strategy to efficiently acquire transacting Dave debit card members.

The Role

As our Exception Operations Manager, you’ll be a key player in keeping Dave’s money movement fast, accurate, and trustworthy. You’ll own the resolution of financial transaction exceptions, dig deep into data to spot patterns before they become problems, and work across teams to design fixes that stick.

This isn’t just about solving today’s issue—it’s about building stronger systems for tomorrow. You’ll collaborate with Engineering, Product, Compliance, Risk, and external partners to drive improvements that directly enhance the member experience.

What You’ll Do

  • Own exception resolution — Investigate and resolve payment discrepancies, transactional anomalies, and regulatory issues, partnering with processors, banks, and internal teams to keep money moving.

  • Spot the signal in the noise — Analyze recurring issues, identify root causes, and turn insights into actionable improvements.

  • Level up the platform — Partner with Engineering, Product, Compliance, and Risk to implement automation, close process gaps, and deliver system enhancements.

  • Build trust with partners — Strengthen operational relationships with third-party processors and banks to accelerate resolution times.

  • Show the impact — Present dashboards, KPIs, and recommendations to leadership, linking your work directly to member experience and company OKRs.

  • Codify best practices — Develop playbooks, process documentation, and onboarding resources to ensure consistent, scalable operations.

What You’ll Bring

  • Operational expertise — 4+ years in exception management, reconciliation, or transaction operations within fintech, banking, or payments, with a track record of resolving complex issues quickly and accurately.

  • Analytical problem-solving — Ability to dig into data, connect the dots, and uncover root causes—then design solutions that prevent recurrence.

  • Cross-functional influence — Experience navigating competing priorities across engineering, product, compliance, and external partners to deliver results.

  • Process improvement mindset — Proven ability to streamline workflows, reduce cycle times, and leverage automation or tooling to scale impact.

  • Regulatory and industry fluency — Familiarity with payment networks, facilitators, and financial regulations, with curiosity to stay ahead of emerging trends.

  • High ownership mentality — A bias for action, comfort with ambiguity, and commitment to following through until the work is done—and done well.
