Datadog is seeking a Senior/Staff-level Statistics Engineer focused on feature flagging and experimentation to help scale our experimentation platform and drive data-informed product decisions.
Position
Staff Statistics Engineer - Feature Flagging and Experimentation at Datadog, based in New York, NY, USA. Full-time role focused on building and operating the statistical and experimentation capabilities that power feature flagging and product experimentation across the Datadog product suite.
Overview
In this role, you will design and implement statistical models and experiments, build robust feature flagging and experimentation infrastructure, and partner with Engineering, Data Science, and Product teams to define metrics, experimental design, and decision criteria. You will drive rigorous analysis of experiment results and ensure high data quality and governance across platforms.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain statistical models and experimentation methods for feature flagging and product experiments.
- Develop and scale feature flagging infrastructure and experimentation pipelines.
- Collaborate with Data Science, Engineering, and Product to define metrics, hypotheses, and acceptable thresholds.
- Analyze experiment results, interpret causal effects, and communicate actionable recommendations to stakeholders.
- Instrument data collection, ensure data quality, and monitor experiment integrity and validity.
- Mentor and coach other engineers and scientists as needed; contribute to technical roadmap and best practices.
Qualifications
- Strong background in statistics, data science, or a related field; experience with experimental design and causal inference.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL; ability to work with large-scale data and data tooling.
- Experience with A/B testing, feature flagging systems, and experimentation platforms.
- Excellent collaboration skills with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Product, and Data Science).
- Advanced degree preferred (MS/PhD) or equivalent practical experience.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Datadog’s data stack or similar observability platforms.
- Familiarity with Bayesian statistics, uplift modeling, or multi-armed bandit approaches.
