Datadog is seeking a Senior Software Engineer focused on macOS system internals. This on-site role is based in Lisbon, Portugal. You will contribute to low-level macOS components and observability tooling to improve performance, reliability, and developer experience.

About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design and implement core macOS system internals, work closely with cross-functional teams, and drive high-quality software in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and optimize macOS system internals and interfaces between kernel and user-space.
• Develop high-performance C/C++ code with a focus on correctness and security.
• Collaborate with product, QA, and platform teams to deliver reliable features for macOS.
• Investigate performance issues, perform profiling, and optimize the macOS stack.
• Write tests, documentation, and developer tooling to support maintainability.

Requirements

• Strong experience in systems programming, OS internals, or kernel development; macOS experience strongly preferred.
• Proficiency in C and C++; knowledge of Objective-C/Swift is a plus.
• Experience with debugging and profiling tools on macOS (e.g., Instruments, lldb, dtrace).
• Bachelor's or equivalent in Computer Science or related field; 5+ years of professional experience for Senior role.

Nice to Have

• Experience with distributed systems or observability tooling is a plus.
