Databricks is hiring a Staff Software Engineer - IAM to design, build, and scale identity and access management capabilities for the Databricks platform. Based in Mountain View, California, you will help secure data and resources across cloud providers and the Unity Catalog, partnering with security, platform, and product teams to deliver robust authentication and authorization solutions.

Your Role

Lead the design and development of scalable IAM services, drive security-conscious architecture, and mentor other engineers. You will define authentication, authorization, and policy enforcement mechanisms that enable secure, compliant access to data and resources across multi-cloud environments.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, and operate scalable IAM services for authentication, authorization, and policy enforcement across the Databricks platform
Implement and evolve IAM protocols and standards (OAuth2/OIDC, SAML, SCIM) and model access control (RBAC/ABAC)
Collaborate with security, platform, and product teams to ensure security, reliability, and compliance at scale
Mentor and lead engineers, review code, and participate in architecture reviews
Improve performance, reliability, and security of identity systems; participate in on-call and incident response when needed
Contribute to security best practices, auditing, and governance across cloud environments

Qualifications

8+ years of software engineering experience with a track record in distributed systems
Deep expertise in IAM protocols: OAuth2/OIDC, SAML, and related standards
Strong understanding of RBAC and ABAC access control models
Proficiency in Java and Python; experience with Scala is a plus
Hands-on experience with cloud providers (AWS/Azure/GCP) and container orchestration (Kubernetes)
Excellent collaboration, communication, and leadership skills
