Sr. Staff Software Engineer - Unity Catalog Data Governance

Overview

Databricks is seeking a Sr. Staff Software Engineer to lead the design, development, and scale of Unity Catalog Data Governance capabilities. This role partners with product, security, and data platform teams to build robust governance across the Lakehouse platform, including access controls, data lineage, and policy enforcement.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and scale Unity Catalog Data Governance features.
• Build robust data access controls, lineage, auditing, and policy enforcement across data assets.
• Collaborate with product, data platform, and security teams to define requirements and ensure governance standards are met.
• Lead architectural decisions, drive technical strategy, and mentor other engineers.
• Ensure reliability, performance, and security of governance components; contribute to testing, monitoring, and incident response.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience; senior-level leadership experience preferred.
• Deep hands-on experience with Apache Spark and the Databricks platform.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL; experience with Scala/Java is a plus.
• Strong understanding of data governance concepts: access control, data lineage, auditing, and data cataloging.
• Experience with Delta Lake, ACID transactions, and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure).
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field; advanced degree preferred.
