Overview

Databricks is seeking a Senior Litigation Counsel to join its global legal team. This role will lead the strategy and management of high-stakes litigation and regulatory matters that impact a fast-growing data analytics and software platform.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive litigation strategies for complex commercial disputes, intellectual property matters, and regulatory investigations.
  • Manage and collaborate with outside counsel, oversee budgets, staffing, and case timelines.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Privacy, Security, Product, Compliance, Finance) to assess risk, plan responses, and ensure consistency with business goals.
  • Oversee discovery, negotiations, settlements, and trial preparation; supervise e-discovery and data preservation efforts.
  • Provide strategic risk assessment, contract dispute guidance, and policy recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Draft and negotiate settlements, licensing agreements, and other critical legal instruments as needed.
  • Deliver internal training and guidance on litigation risk, policy compliance, and regulatory developments.
  • Monitor evolving laws related to data privacy, security, technology, and enforcement actions to inform business strategy.
  • Represent the company in legal proceedings and regulatory matters with professionalism and integrity.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school; active California bar admission; in-house experience preferred.
  • 8+ years of relevant litigation experience, ideally within technology companies or software platforms, with a strong track record in complex commercial disputes, IP matters, and regulatory investigations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, strong negotiation and analytical abilities, and the capability to work cross-functionally.
  • Ability to manage external counsel, lead legal teams, and travel as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with sound judgment and business acumen.
