Job Description
Databricks is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager for the Photon Team in San Francisco to lead a high-performance data analytics platform. You will drive technical strategy, mentor engineers, and work closely with product, design, and data science teams to deliver scalable solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow a team of software engineers focused on Photon and related data processing technologies.
- Set the technical direction and roadmap for the Photon team and ensure architectural integrity across projects.
- Collaborate with product, design, and data science teams to translate requirements into robust, scalable systems.
- Establish and promote best practices for software development, testing, and delivery.
- Recruit, coach, and performance-manage engineers; drive career development and retention.
- Oversee project execution, milestones, and releases while maintaining a strong focus on quality and reliability.
- Contribute to high-level architectural decisions and influence cross-team collaboration.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of engineering management experience, ideally leading teams building data platforms or analytics products.
- Strong background in distributed data systems, data processing pipelines, and scalable architectures.
- Proficiency with Spark/SQL and modern data languages (Python, Scala); familiarity with Photon is a plus.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to influence across levels of an organization.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field (Master's preferred).
