Software Engineer - Systems PhD Candidates

Overview

Databricks is seeking a Software Engineer – Systems PhD Candidates to join our engineering team. This role focuses on building and optimizing scalable distributed systems that power Databricks’ data analytics platform. The successful candidate will collaborate with PhD researchers and engineers to translate cutting-edge research into production-grade software.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, and optimize distributed systems at scale for analytics workloads.
• Collaborate with research teams to translate academic ideas into production-grade software.
• Contribute to system architecture, performance optimization, reliability, and maintainability.
• Engage with PhD candidates on research projects and provide mentorship as needed.

Qualifications

• Pursuing or recently completed PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with a focus on systems, distributed systems, operating systems, or networking.
• Strong programming experience in C++ and Python; solid Linux proficiency.
• Deep understanding of data structures, algorithms, and performance optimization.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with cloud platforms, distributed databases, or ML systems.
