We are looking fora researcherto join our User Experience Research team. This role involves planning and conducting research on UX projects that directlyimpactthe experience of millions of users worldwide. We aim to gain a deep understanding of the problemseducators, learners, and administrators faceso we cancreatea product that isvaluable andintuitive.

UX Research

works directly alongside the Product Design team, and both are

part of

the

UX Department

at D2L

.

This means we work closely with Product Designers to inform

the design of new and existing products.

We get involved early in development projects to conduct research about our users’ goals, motivations, and challenges. As designers work through the phases of their projects, we stay deeply engaged and execute usability research to make sure that the final product

meets

our users’ needs and expectations.

The

UX Department

is part of our larger

Product organization

, which

is responsible for

creating and developing

all of

D2L’s products. This means we collaborate with not only designers, but also Product Managers, Developers, and many other talented D2Lers on our research projects

.

How you will make an impact

The D2L User Experience Research team is focused on providing the resources, knowledge, and data that our company needs to make our products useful and usable. We conduct research with end users of our software, including educators, learners, and administrators, to enable our product teams to make data-informed decisions.

What you will bring to the role

  • Plan, design, and conduct research projects. Work with Product Designers, Product Managers, and project teams to identify and organize knowledge gaps.
  • Understand research methods, when to use them, and how to apply them. This includes, but is not limited to literature reviews, usability testing, semi-structured interviews, and surveys.
  • Manage participant recruitment and scheduling in a way that prioritizes participant confidentiality.
  • Analyze and synthesize research data to accurately represent participants’ perspectives and experiences.
  • Report and present research process, findings, and actionable design considerations for various audiences in ways that are engaging and relevant.
  • Learn and understand the education and learning context and the product workflows and tools related to research projects
  • Evangelize research. Share insights with the broader organization and externally in creative ways to increase empathy.
  • Actively contribute to UX Research processes, documentation, and repositories; help maintain and promote the participant database.
  • Contribute to the learning culture of our team where we continually grow in the practice and actively seek out opportunities to improve our skill sets and processes.

Education Recommendations

  • Degree in related studies (Anthropology, Cognitive Science, Human Computer Interaction, Psychology, UX Design, etc.)
  • Experience (1-3years) conducting primary research in an academic or User Experience contexts

The expected base salary range for a new hire in this role is listed below.The annualized base salary offered is determined by each candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills, education, training and experience. It is aligned to ensure both internal and external competitiveness using market data for the geographic location and industry. As part of the total compensation at D2L the role may be eligible for additional benefits including a Wellness Subsidy, Equity Grants, Variable Incentive, and more.

Base Salary Range

$60,000

$70,000 CAD
