DIS-TRAN Steel, located in Pineville, LA, is looking for experienced Material Yard Handlers to join our team.

The Material Yard Handler must be capable of checking trucks in and inspecting any shipments that arrive at Dis-Tran Steel. This role will be responsible for the record keeping of this inventory in our ERP system, and perform audits when necessary to ensure proper spending. The Material Yard Handler will also move, store, and issue this inventory into its appropriate locations in the plant. This individual will provide the production floor with the right parts and materials at the right time in order to meet on-time-delivery goals. The Material Yard Handler will also lead the process of shipping a variety of production parts, materials and supplies to its specified destinations.

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Safety: Works with business unit leadership and team members to ensure the highest level of safety and promotes a safety-based culture to drive the implementation of expectations and standards to team members. Develops and manages processes and requirements that are designed to systematically achieve conformance, reliability, and continuous improvement in performance. This individual oversees and promotes programs that will ensure compliance in order to reduce and manage risk.
  • Shipping and Receiving: Ensures Dis-Tran Steel’s shipping and receiving processes are effective and consistently reliable to internal and customers’ expectations and standards while sending, accepting, and recording the movement of products and materials. Ensures Traceability by Attaching identifying tags to material, and also Reads work orders or receives oral instructions to determine material/equipment needs.
  • Productivity: Strives to consistently achieve excellence in all tasks and goals, individually or through plant leadership. Maintains focus and perseverance in the face of obstacles. Uses time efficiently and responds quickly and constructively when confronted with new opportunities and challenges.
  • Operations / Process (Continuous Improvement): Works with the leadership team to fully optimize Dis-Tran Steel’s operations and effectively drives systems and processes to meet key performance measures for Dis-Tran Steel. Encourages continuous improvement of these key measures and effectively communicates results to Dis-Tran Steel and Crest Leadership.
  • Material Handling: Sorts cargo before loading and unloading. Moves steel or other materials to and from production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, or containers, by hand or using trucks, cranes, or other equipment.
  • REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent with three years of manufacturing or directly relatable experience is the minimum requirement; five plus years of direct experience is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of shipping processes and procedures is required.
  • Must be capable of receiving, moving, storing, counting, tracking, and issuing a variety of production parts, materials, and supplies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel are required.
  • ERP system experience, specifically in Epicor, experience is preferred.
  • Certifications or prior experience using moving machinery, such as forklifts, preferred.
  • Working knowledge of material handling, banding, palletizing, and loading on to truck preferred.
  • Regular, reliable attendance is required.
