Senior Staff Data Security Privacy Engineer at Coursera

Coursera is a global online learning platform that aims to provide universal access to education. As a Senior Staff Data Security Privacy Engineer, you will lead privacy engineering initiatives across Coursera's data platforms and products, shaping how we protect user data and comply with global privacy regulations.

The Role

You will design and implement privacy by design in product development, architect data protection controls, and mentor other engineers. You will collaborate with security, legal, privacy, and product teams to build scalable privacy solutions and drive regulatory compliance across GDPR, CCPA, and other frameworks.

Responsibilities

Lead privacy engineering efforts to embed privacy by design into data pipelines and product features
Design and implement data protection controls, encryption, access management, and data minimization
Conduct privacy risk assessments and DPIAs; lead remediation efforts
Collaborate with Security, Legal, Product, and Data teams to ensure regulatory compliance and risk management
Develop privacy tooling and metrics to monitor and improve privacy posture
Mentor and coach more junior engineers on privacy and security best practices

Qualifications

8+ years of experience in privacy engineering, data security, or equivalent
Strong knowledge of GDPR, CCPA, and privacy by design principles
Experience with security architectures, cloud security, IAM, data governance, and data protection technologies
Proven ability to drive privacy projects across cross-functional teams
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field; advanced degree preferred

Location

Based in the United States or within North America. This is an on-site role with standard business hours; some travel may be required.
