Procurement Counsel

Coursera is seeking a strategic Procurement Counsel to join its legal team in the United States. In this role you will provide practical, business-minded legal guidance on all procurement activities, vendor contracting, and licensing for Coursera's platform and marketplace. You will negotiate and draft agreements with vendors, manage vendor risk related to data privacy and information security, ensure compliance with applicable laws, and collaborate with product, privacy, and security teams on complex deals.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate procurement contracts, master service agreements, data processing agreements, and related documents.
• Provide practical negotiation strategies, terms, and risk allocations.
• Adhere to privacy and data security requirements in vendor engagements; support privacy/security teams as needed.
• Help develop and maintain contract templates and playbooks; support scalable procurement processes across Coursera.
• Partner with product, legal, finance, and operations teams to align procurement with business objectives.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active U.S. bar admission.
• 5+ years of experience in procurement, technology contracting, or vendor management.
• Strong negotiation, drafting, and communication skills.
• Familiarity with privacy and security standards (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and cross-border data transfer considerations.
• Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-growing tech company.
