Climate Power is an independent strategic communications and paid media operation focused on building the political will and public support for bold climate action. Founded by the Center for American Progress Action Fund, League of Conservation Voters, and Sierra Club, Climate Power integrates hard-hitting research, polling, state and national earned media, digital and paid media to influence the national conversation, embolden leaders to take immediate, bold climate action, and expose climate deniers and their oil and gas lobby allies.

About This Role

Climate Power has an immediate opening for a Senior Advisor to direct the organization’s Climate Urgency campaigns. The senior advisor will work across the organization and with key partners to drive Climate Power’s campaign to elevate climate urgency in the face of more devastating, frequent and extreme weather; counter disinformation from climate deniers, and build political power for the climate movement.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, build and execute Climate Power’s climate urgency campaign strategy, tactics and implementation, including by driving day to day work of cross-department campaign staff in moments of extreme weather and to proactively build political power.
  • Coordinate across Climate Power to align staff work and priorities with our climate urgency campaign goals and objectives.
  • Manage Project Manager and consultants.
  • Set metrics for Climate Power’s climate urgency campaign in collaboration with campaign staff and department leads.
  • Hold cross-team staff and self accountable for achieving metrics.
  • Anticipate needs for upcoming fights, generate earned media moments, and identify proactive opportunities for Climate Power engagement.
  • Develop and manage campaign budget and support fundraising efforts related to the campaign.
  • Steward relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Serve as an “on the record” spokesperson for Climate Power as needed.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as need and capacity dictate.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • 10 years of political experience, including political campaign experience.
  • 5 years of people and/or campaign management experience; expertise in leading campaigns, departments and diverse teams and managing complex projects.
  • Experience leading campaigns with partners and allied organizations and coalitions across the progressive community; experience working with climate and environmental groups required.
  • Experience managing large-scale campaigns that includes paid communications strategies.
  • Experience working with high profile stakeholders, including managing meetings and agendas, and owning day-to-day interactions.Ability to build consensus, resolve conflicts, and effectively manage interdepartmental communication.
  • Ability to foster trust and confidence from and among peers.
  • Ability to build and sustain collaborative campaigns.
  • Excels in collaboration with co-workers to produce ideas, meet deadlines, and reach goals.
  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong strategic campaign and writing skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced campaign environment with unpredictable hours in high-pressure situations

    Location & Hours of Operations

    Climate Power is a remote-first organization based in Washington, DC. This position can be located anywhere in the United States, but must be able to work Monday - Friday, 9 am - 6 pm EST, plus weekends and evenings as the work dictates.

    Our Hiring Timeline and Process

    Our interview process generally involves 3 rounds of interviews, ranging in length from 30-60 minutes. All interviews will be conducted via Google Meets or Zoom.
