Role Overview

The Physical Environmental Safety and Compliance Senior Consultant is responsible for overseeing and implementing programs that ensure the physical safety of patients, staff, and visitors within healthcare facilities are safe. This role also ensures that all safety protocols and regulatory compliance requirements are met, working collaboratively with facility leadership and cross-functional teams to create a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor physical safety protocols and policies tailored to healthcare environments.

  • Conduct comprehensive safety audits and risk assessments of facilities, identifying potential hazards and recommending corrective actions.

  • Assist clients in building operational efficiencies into the management of physical environment compliance to achieve improved quality outcomes and sustained compliance.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including standards set by CMS, OSHA, The Joint Commission, and other deeming authorities.

  • Provide consulting support to respond to investigations and prevent safety incidents and accidents, preparing detailed reports and action plans to prevent recurrence.

  • Provide training and education to staff on physical safety with the best practices, emergency preparedness, and regulatory requirements.

  • Collaborate with clinical, administrative, and facilities management teams to address safety concerns and implement improvements.

  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging risks, and changes in regulations, advising leadership on necessary adjustments to safety programs.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for safety inspections and external audits, ensuring documentation is accurate and up to date.

  • Develop and maintain incident tracking systems and safety performance metrics to drive accountability.

  • Support emergency planning, response coordination, and business continuity initiatives.

Qualifications and desired skills

  • A bachelor's degree in related fields such as safety, engineering, nursing, emergency management, or healthcare administration. or a related field (master’s preferred).

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience including safety program management, and knowledge of NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, Environment of Care (EC) standards/Physical Environment (PE) standards, and related regulations. Preferred experience in health care facilities.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Healthcare Safety Professional, Certified Safety Professional, Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager, Certified Plant Maintenance Manager) are highly desirable.

  • Experience delivering training and facilitating cross-functional collaboration.

  • The candidate must be able to complete all the physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Requires interaction with clinical and non-clinical staff, regulatory agencies, and external auditors.

  • Client travel is required.

Salary range: $135,000 to $180,000 plus may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. The salary range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skills, experience, training, licensure and certifications, practice area, and other business and organizational needs.
