Job Title: Jr. Network Engineer

Location: Norfolk, Virginia at a Government facility/site

Clearance: Secret

Program: USFF HQ IT Support Contract

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This role will be supporting the U.S. Fleet Forces Command (USFF) Headquarters (HQ) at USFF Norfolk, Virginia at a Government facility/site. As a member of their USFF Communications and Information Systems Division (N6) Support Team, you will significantly contribute to Navy Fleet Readiness and Homeland Security. The team is involved in information technology (IT) support tasks including but are not limited to Program Management support, Network Engineering support, Maritime Operations Center/Tactical Systems support, Video Teleconferencing and Audio/Visual support, Portal Management and Application Development support, Staff IT Business Process/IT Services support, Satellite Communications Planning support, Information Assurance (IA)/Certification and Accreditation support, Database Administration support, Communications Security/EKMS support, and general IT support, as well as maintenance, updating and enhancement of developed application/software.

Job Responsibilities:

•Provides support for network connectivity or related network issues for the command.

•Assists with plans for the installation of network systems.

•Installing and configuring network equipment.

•Troubleshoots diagnoses and resolves network problems. Escalates problems beyond his/her capability to rectify any network deficiencies or to enhance network performance.

•Analyzes facilities bandwidth requirements and system interdependencies. Develop capacity planning models.

•Assesses network performance to ensure that it meets the present and future needs of the command.

•Use of enterprise system monitoring and management tools such as Wireshark, Websense, Solar Winds and NMAP.

•Uses commercial enterprise-level tools and products to provide network services, including Cisco ISE, VLANs, Spanning Tree, Trunking, ARP, and DHCP.

•Install, terminate, test and troubleshoot CAT 5/6 and fiber optic cables.

•Install termination blocks, patch panels and station hardware.

•Install cable support systems in new or existing buildings.

•Establish cable pathways as prescribed by industry standards.

Job Requirements:

•Associate’s degree in mathematics, engineering, computer science or other related field and 1 year of related experience, or AA/AS related field or Computer Network Administration Certification and 2 years of related experience. In lieu of formal education, 4 years of experience specifically related to the qualification requirements below.

•Current certification in any of the industry recognized commercial or military cabling and infrastructure certification programs.

•Ability to use basic hand tools, punch down, shears and crimp tools.

•Knowledge of category rated testers, cable troubleshooting (e.g., Cat 3, Cat 5, Cat 5e, and Cat 6).

•Advanced knowledge of fiber optic cable requirements, fire stopping and grounding.

•Minimum 2 years’ experience in the installation, termination and maintenance of cabling in a large enterprise environment.

•Knowledge of the Defense Information Systems Agency published STIG requirements and implementation/compliance process.

•Working familiarity with Cisco IOS, VLANs, Routing protocols, and Cisco ISE with demonstrated hands on experience configuring Cisco switches.

•Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). Candidates who do not currently possess the CCNA certification, but meet all other minimum requirements, may be considered for this position. If selected, the candidate will be required to obtain the required certification within a six (6) month time period.

•Must have an active secret clearance.

•Must have CompTIA Sec+

•Ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences.

•Ability to analyze network performance data and identify areas for improvement.

•Ability to think critically and creatively to solve complex network problems.
