About Canonical

Canonical is seeking a System Software Engineer to drive one of our core toolchains—GCC/LLVM compiler tooling or Rust—used in the making of Ubuntu, by our developer community and our customers. This is a remote role based in Europe, offering the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge compiler tooling within a collaborative open-source ecosystem.

Role

Drive one of our core toolchains - GCC/LLVM or Rust - used in the making of Ubuntu, by our developer community and our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to GCC/LLVM compiler toolchains, Rust tooling, and related ecosystem work.
  • Collaborate with Canonical engineering teams and the open-source community.
  • Implement features, optimizations, and bug fixes.
  • Help maintain and evolve Ubuntu toolchains in production environments.

Requirements

  • Strong experience with C/C++ and compiler internals.
  • Hands-on experience with GCC/LLVM toolchains and Rust.
  • Familiarity with Linux/Ubuntu development processes.
  • Excellent problem solving, debugging, and communication skills.
