Senior Engineering Manager- Ubuntu at Canonical

Role overview

You will manage and grow a high-performing engineering team, set strategic direction, align with product goals, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. This position requires strong technical depth in Linux environments and a proven track record of leadership in complex software projects.

Responsibilities

Provide vision and leadership for one of the Ubuntu core teams
Hire, mentor, and develop engineers; manage performance and growth
Coordinate roadmaps, milestones, and technical decisions across squads
Collaborate with other Canonical teams to ensure robust base systems and toolchains
Drive architectural direction and maintain high standards for reliability and security

Requirements

Proven leadership experience in software engineering teams
Strong background in Linux environments, SystemD, and Ubuntu ecosystem
Proficiency in C/C++ and Python
Excellent collaboration, communication, and strategic thinking skills
