Rust Engineering Lead - Linux and Open Source

Overview

Canonical is seeking a Rust Engineering Lead to shape and drive the Rust initiative across Canonical’s Linux distributions (including Ubuntu) and our wider open source products. This leadership role focuses on integrating Rust into our systems and strategy, helping Canonical advance in the Rust ecosystem while delivering high-quality open source software. Responsibilities

• Lead Rust engineering efforts, define architecture and roadmap for Rust tooling and libraries within Canonical.
• Collaborate with Ubuntu teams and external open source communities.
• Mentor engineers, scale teams, and ensure high-quality software delivery.
• Contribute to Canonical’s Rust strategy and influence the direction of Rust adoption in Linux/open source projects.

Qualifications

• Proven experience with Rust and large-scale software projects.
• Strong leadership experience and track record of delivering on open source initiatives.
• Experience with Linux systems and open source communities.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work across teams and with external contributors.
