Overview
Canonical is seeking a hands-on IoT Field Engineer to support customers across China and the broader region. You will install, configure and maintain IoT devices and edge gateways, troubleshoot field issues, and collaborate with customers to design reliable IoT deployments. You will work with cross-functional teams to implement device management, secure connectivity, data collection, and edge-to-cloud integrations. Some travel within China and neighboring regions may be required.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and validate IoT devices, gateways and sensors at customer sites.
- Diagnose field issues and perform root cause analysis; provide on-site and remote technical support.
- Integrate devices with cloud services and management platforms, supporting Canonical IoT solutions and public cloud providers.
- Collaborate with customers, sales engineers, and product teams to capture requirements and deliver solutions.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and knowledge base articles.
- Ensure security, reliability, and compliance in deployments; provide feedback to product teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor\'s degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years experience in IoT, field service, or embedded systems.
- Strong knowledge of IoT protocols (MQTT, CoAP), device management and edge computing.
- Proficiency with Linux and/or Windows-based devices; scripting experience with Python or similar.
- Solid networking knowledge (TCP/IP, VPN, firewalls) and familiarity with industrial environments.
- Excellent communication skills in English and Chinese; willingness to travel within China and the region.
Nice to have
- Experience with edge computing platforms and cloud integration (e.g., AWS, Azure).
- Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for IoT deployments.
