Golang System Software Engineer - Containers / Virtualisation

Role overview

Canonical is seeking a Golang System Software Engineer - Containers / Virtualisation. This remote role is open to candidates based in the Americas or EMEA. You will work on building high-performance Go-based system software for containerization and virtualization, including REST APIs and database components to support LXD at scale.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement robust Go-based system software for containers and virtualization.
• Develop REST APIs and interfaces for LXD.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including DevOps, platform engineering, and product management.
• Optimize performance, reliability, and scalability of container infrastructure.
• Contribute to code reviews, testing, and documentation; mentor junior engineers as appropriate.

Requirements

• Strong experience with Go (Golang) in systems programming.
• Hands-on experience with containers and virtualization; LXD experience is a plus.
• Experience designing and consuming REST APIs.
• Experience with databases and data modeling.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, concurrency, and performance tuning.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
