About the role

We are looking for an Engineering Manager for the Ubuntu Server project’s cloud-init component. This remote role (supporting teams across Americas and EMEA) will lead a talented group responsible for delivering the flagship Ubuntu Server distribution and its cloud-init integrations. You will set technical direction, mentor engineers, collaborate with product and community stakeholders, and drive delivery across cloud and on-prem environments.

What you’ll do

• Lead and grow a high-performance engineering team focused on cloud-init and Ubuntu Server
• Define technical roadmaps, priorities, and engineering best practices
• Partner with product, security, and open-source communities to deliver reliable, scalable features
• Ensure high-quality releases, code quality, and robust testing across cloud platforms
• Mentor engineers, support career development, and foster an inclusive team culture
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align on architecture and delivery timelines

Requirements

• Experience leading engineering teams in open-source or Linux-centric projects
• Strong background with Linux, Ubuntu Server, and cloud-init or related cloud tooling
• Proven ability to drive product roadmaps and deliverables in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across remote teams
• Judgment to balance shipping, quality, and long-term maintainability
