The Role

As the Senior Director of Marketing Communications, you will develop and execute strategic marketing, brand, and communications programs that elevate the Academy’s visibility, strengthen public engagement, and support fundraising and member growth. You will lead a multidisciplinary team and collaborate with external partners.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the organization’s overall marketing communications strategy.
• Lead media relations, brand management, and integrated campaigns across channels.
• Oversee content strategy, storytelling, and audience engagement.
• Manage a diverse team of marketing professionals and external agencies.
• Partner with senior leadership on messaging for strategic initiatives and donor communications.
• Measure impact through analytics, dashboards, and performance metrics.
• Ensure alignment with the Academy’s mission, values, and inclusivity commitments.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in marketing communications, brand management, or related fields; nonprofit or science sector experience preferred.
• Proven leadership and people-management skills with ability to mentor teams.
• Expertise in media relations, content marketing, digital channels, and integrated campaigns.
• Strong strategic thinking, storytelling, and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
