Software Engineer III, Metadata Extract

Job Description

Box is seeking a Senior Software Engineer III, Metadata Extract to design and implement metadata extraction services that power data discovery across Box products. You will build scalable data pipelines, APIs, and microservices for extracting and enriching metadata from diverse data sources. You will collaborate with the Data Platform and Product teams to improve metadata quality, reliability, and performance. The role is full-time and based in Wrocław, Poland (on-site).

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain metadata extraction services and data pipelines.
• Build scalable, reliable APIs for metadata access.
• Collaborate with Data Platform and Product teams to define metadata schemas and quality metrics.
• Ensure data quality, observability, and performance; monitor pipelines.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, and architecture discussions.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical documentation.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience with metadata extraction or data processing in distributed systems.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Java, or Go.
• Familiarity with APIs, microservices, and CI/CD practices.
• Strong problem-solving, debugging, and collaboration skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
