Overview

Box is seeking a Software Engineer III, Metadata to join our Metadata engineering team in Warsaw, Poland. In this role, you will help design and build scalable metadata systems that power Box's products and data catalog, enabling robust search, discovery, and governance of content across platforms.

What you'll do

Design, implement, and maintain metadata services and data pipelines.
Collaborate with product, data, and platform teams to define metadata schemas, APIs, and data models.
Build robust, scalable APIs and services with a focus on data quality, observability, and performance.
Contribute to system architecture discussions, code reviews, and best practices for software development.
Mentor and coach more junior engineers; participate in hiring and onboarding as needed.

Qualifications

Strong experience in software engineering with a focus on metadata systems, data modeling, and APIs.
Proficiency in at least one major programming language (e.g., Java, Python).
Experience with SQL databases and data workflows (e.g., ETL, data pipelines).
Familiarity with building and consuming RESTful APIs, microservices, and cloud environments.
Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills.

Nice to have

Experience with box-like content platforms or data catalogs.
Knowledge of distributed systems, streaming pipelines, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
