Box is seeking a Director, Japan Legal to lead Box's legal function in Japan. This senior leadership role will report to the Head of Global Legal and partner with the business to navigate Japanese law, corporate governance, data privacy, and commercial transactions for the Japan market.

Responsibilities
\n
\n- Lead the development and execution of Box's legal strategy in Japan, ensuring regulatory compliance and risk management across all business units.
\n- Provide expert advice on commercial contracts, licensing, privacy, data protection, antitrust and intellectual property matters affecting the Japanese market.
\n- Oversee interactions with Japanese authorities, regulators, and outside counsel; coordinate with global legal teams on cross-border matters.
\n- Lead due diligence for transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, partnerships, and local corporate governance initiatives in Japan.
\n- Draft and negotiate complex agreements and terms of service in Japanese and English; ensure consistency with Box's global policies.
\n- Mentor and manage a local legal team and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to drive business objectives while mitigating risk.

Qualifications
\n
\n- Juris Doctor or equivalent and admitted to practice in Japan.
\n- 10+ years of relevant in-house or law firm experience within technology or software-enabled businesses.
\n- Deep knowledge of Japanese corporate law, data privacy (APPI), employment, and antitrust regulations.
\n- Excellent negotiation, communication, and collaboration skills in English and Japanese.
\n- Proven leadership experience and ability to manage cross-border projects and teams.
\n- Experience working with regulators and handling disputes or investigations in Japan is preferred.
