Role Overview:

Our client specializes in steel-based solar carport structures for commercial and industrial parking lots, with occasional tenant improvement (TI) mezzanine work. We’re hiring an offshore, full‑time Structural Steel Detailer to convert stamped plan sets (IFC) into fabrication‑ready deliverables: 3D models, shop/erection drawings, accurate BOMs, and CNC/NC exports. Success in this role means zero field surprises—tight coordination, fast redline turnarounds, and meticulous control of grades, gauges, coatings, and hole patterns for PV panel attachment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Modeling & Detailing: Develop detailed 3D Tekla models for solar carport structures, including HSS tube steel columns, wide-flange beams/rafters, and cold-formed purlins (C-channels). Apply correct gauges, grades (A500, A572, A36), and coating specifications (e.g., galvanizing) based on stamped engineering plans (IFC).
  • Shop & Erection Drawings: Prepare comprehensive shop, assembly, single-part, and erection drawings, including anchor bolt plans, base plate details, and framing layouts. Ensure accuracy in weld symbols, bolt/hole patterns, edge distances, and anchor layouts in compliance with fabrication standards.
  • Bill of Materials (BOM) & Reports: Generate precise Bills of Materials and cutting lists with accurate quantities by member type and length. Track and document material grade, gauge, coating, and plate specifications; prepare detailed bolt and anchor schedules for procurement and fabrication.
  • Fabrication & CNC Deliverables: Produce clean, fabrication-ready exports (e.g., DSTV/NC1, DXF) and model snapshots compatible with CNC equipment and fabricator workflows.
  • Quality Assurance & Coordination: Interpret stamped structural and architectural drawings to identify column spacing, slopes, tilts, and clear heights. Review and verify structural callouts (e.g., W10×60, HSS 10×10×3/8), detect potential clashes or field-fit issues prior to fabrication, and raise RFIs to resolve ambiguities with engineers or fabricators.
  • Revisions & Version Control: Incorporate engineering redlines and revisions efficiently while maintaining clear drawing registers, revision clouds, and version control protocols within the shared project directory.
  • Collaboration & Technical Support: Work closely with engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams to resolve discrepancies, ensure design intent, and support technical detailing for mezzanine structures, guardrails, and handrails where applicable.
  • Communication & Schedule Alignment: Communicate status and risks early, align on schedules, and ensure reliable overlap with U.S. time zones

Qualifications:

Technical Expertise:
  • 3–6+ years of experience in structural steel detailing using Tekla Structures (preferred) or equivalent 3D modeling software for model creation, drawing production, numbering, reports, and CNC/DSTV exports.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD for plan markups, drawing edits, and coordination with engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated experience with solar carports, canopies, or racking structures, including PV panel hole spacing, purlin layouts, tilt/slope geometry, clear heights, and drive-aisle constraints.
  • Strong understanding of steel materials and standards, including grades (A500, A572, A36), coating requirements, and galvanizing allowances (vent/drain holes, oversize post-galv holes).
  • Solid grasp of connection detailing (plates, bolts, welds), weld symbols, hole types and spacing, anchor bolt layouts, and shop/erection tolerances.
  • Working knowledge of AISC Detailing and Code of Standard Practice, AWS D1.1 (welding symbols), RCSC (bolting), and basic AISI provisions for cold-formed members.
Professional Competencies:
  • Exceptional attention to detail with disciplined control over naming conventions, numbering, and Bill of Materials (BOM) accuracy.
  • Ability to read and interpret stamped structural drawings and specifications with precision and clarity.
  • Strong English communication skills (written and verbal) — able to draft clear RFIs, concise drawing notes, and proactive issue escalations.
  • Highly responsive and reliable during overlapping U.S. working hours, with consistent follow-through on redlines and revision updates.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills, maintaining version control and proper documentation within shared project directories.
Technical Infrastructure:
  • Must have a reliable home office setup, including a capable personal PC/laptop and a stable internet connection with at least 50 Mbps upload and download speed.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have:

  • Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu, Excel-based reporting templates, and U.S.-based fabrication or construction projects.
  • Knowledge of cambering practices and advanced detailing for galvanizing or field-fit conditions.
Preferred Background:

Hands-on experience in structural steel detailing and fabrication coordination.Exposure to solar structure or industrial steel projects.Familiarity with fabrication workflows and construction coordination.

What We Offer:

Competitive Pay and Benefits.Opportunity to work with cutting-edge design technology.Thrive in a fast-paced, supportive team that values work-life balance.Play a key role in design operations—your impact on company growth will be evident.Join a culture that values your contributions and equips you with the tools to succeed.Be part of an innovative team that continuously learns and adapts.
