Staff Software Engineer, Catalog Foundations

Overview

Block is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join Catalog Foundations. You will own the core catalog systems that power Block's merchant and product experiences, including data modeling, catalog APIs, and scalable services. This is a remote-friendly role based in or around Vancouver, Canada, with openness to remote work where eligible.

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, and implement scalable catalog foundations and services
• Define robust data models and APIs in collaboration with product, design, data, and infrastructure teams
• Mentor and coach engineers, lead code reviews, and raise the technical bar
• Drive reliability, performance, and scalability across catalog systems
• Influence technical direction and participate in cross-functional initiatives

Qualifications

• Extensive software engineering experience with a track record of delivering large-scale systems
• Strong background in distributed systems, data modeling, and API design
• Proven leadership and mentoring abilities
• Excellent collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills

Location and Work Model

Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Remote-friendly with open options for remote work within eligible regions.
