Block is seeking a Staff Android Engineer for its Food & Beverage Order Entry mobile app. As a senior member of the platform team, you will own the end-to-end Android development lifecycle, collaborating with product, design, and backend engineers to deliver reliable, scalable mobile experiences for our customers. You will design and implement features for the order entry app, improve performance and reliability, drive architecture decisions, and contribute to code quality, testing, and release processes. Ideal candidates have strong Android experience (Kotlin and Java), experience consuming RESTful APIs, modern architecture patterns (MVVM/ Clean Architecture), and a passion for delivering high-quality user experiences in a fast-paced environment. This is a remote-friendly role open to candidates in North America.

Role Overview

Lead the development of Blocks Android application for Food & Beverage order entry. Drive architecture decisions, mentor teammates, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ship robust mobile features.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain high-quality Android applications for the order-entry mobile experience.
• Collaborate with product, design, and backend teams to define and implement features.
• Focus on performance, reliability, security, and scalable architecture (MVVM/ Clean Architecture).
• Write unit and UI tests, participate in CI/CD and code reviews.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to architectural decisions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Android development experience (Kotlin and Java).
• Strong knowledge of Android frameworks, REST APIs, and modern architecture patterns (MVVM, Clean Architecture).
• Experience with unit/instrumentation testing (JUnit, Espresso) and Agile methodologies.
• BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent.
