Software Engineering Manager, Access

Overview

Block is seeking a Software Engineering Manager for Access to lead a team building authentication and access systems for Cash App. This remote-friendly, Bay Area–based leadership role combines people management with hands-on software leadership to deliver secure, scalable identity solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of software engineers focused on access and authentication systems
• Define technical direction, architecture, coding standards, and best practices
• Collaborate with product, design, and security teams to deliver features on schedule
• Own delivery commitments, drive quality, testing, and release processes
• Recruit, coach, and develop engineers; manage performance and career growth
• Improve system reliability, security posture, and incident response processes
• Partner with cross-functional teams to define roadmaps and success metrics

Qualifications

• 5+ years of engineering leadership experience with a track record of building and scaling teams
• 8+ years of software engineering experience
• Experience with authentication/authorization, identity, and security best practices
• Proficiency in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and modern development tooling
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science or a related field
