Senior Economist, Advanced Insights and Modeling

Overview

Block is seeking a Senior Economist, Advanced Insights and Modeling to join our Engineering organization in a remote-friendly, full-time role. This position focuses on building advanced economic models and delivering actionable insights to product teams and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and validate econometric models for forecasting and decision support
• Analyze large-scale data from Block's platforms to derive insights
• Develop metrics and dashboards to track performance and quantify impact
• Collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, product managers, and business leaders
• Present findings to executive audiences with clear storytelling and data visualization
• Mentor junior economists and contribute to modeling best practices

Qualifications

• PhD or Master’s in Economics, Econometrics, Statistics, or a related field; or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of applied econometrics, time-series analysis, and forecasting
• Proficiency in Python and/or R, SQL; experience with data visualization tools
• Strong knowledge of time-series methods, causal inference, and forecasting
• Ability to translate business questions into analytics and actionable recommendations
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience presenting to executives
• Familiarity with blockchain or digital economy contexts is a plus

Location and Work Model

Remote-friendly role open to candidates in North America. Collaboration with teams in the Bay Area and other regions is expected; flexible hours and asynchronous collaboration where possible.

Compensation

Salary ranges based on region. Zone-based ranges in USD from 160,700 to 283,600 (pre-rounding). After rounding, approximately 161,000 to 284,000 per year.
