Senior Deep Learning Scientist, Risk Labs

Block is seeking a Senior Deep Learning Scientist to join Risk Labs. This role focuses on advancing risk analytics using cutting-edge deep learning techniques. You will lead research initiatives, develop and optimize deep learning models for risk assessment, and collaborate with data engineers, product teams, and researchers to translate discoveries into scalable, production-ready systems. This remote-friendly position is within North America.

Overview

As a Senior Deep Learning Scientist, you will drive the development of advanced deep learning models to improve risk detection, assessment, and mitigation. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to bring research breakthroughs into practical, scalable solutions that enhance Block\'s risk capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead and conduct end-to-end research in deep learning with a focus on risk analytics and fraud detection.
• Design, train, and evaluate state-of-the-art models (e.g., transformers, CNNs, RNNs) using Python and modern DL frameworks.
• Collaborate with data engineers and product teams to deploy models into production with reliable monitoring and governance.
• Mentor junior researchers and contribute to the scientific culture of Risk Labs.
• Communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders through written reports and presentations.

Requirements

• Strong background in deep learning, machine learning, and statistics; PhD or equivalent experience is a plus.
• Proficiency with Python and DL frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow).
• Experience with risk analytics, fraud detection, or financial technology is desirable.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to work in cross-functional teams.

Remote within North America. On-site options in New York City may be discussed.
