Senior Backend Engineer, Activation and Engagement Server (Growth)

Overview

Block is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for Activation and Engagement Server (Growth). You will design, build, and scale backend services that power activation and engagement features for Block's Growth initiatives. This on-site role is based in the Bay Area, CA.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain backend services and APIs for activation and engagement workflows.
• Collaborate with product, frontend, data, and platform teams to deliver high-quality software.
• Improve reliability, performance, and scalability of distributed systems.
• Mentor junior engineers; participate in architecture discussions and code reviews.
• Participate in on-call rotations and ensure security and reliability.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software development experience.
• Strong background in distributed systems and building scalable services.
• Proficiency in at least one backend language (e.g., Go, Java, Python, Node.js).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), containers (Docker/Kubernetes), and CI/CD.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
