The Role

The Square Japan Sales team is looking for a Sales Development Representative (SDR) to act as a trusted first point of contact for prospective sellers. As an SDR, you will serve as a brand ambassador for Square Japan, identifying and qualifying inbound leads while showcasing the value of Square's ecosystem for a wide variety of businesses.

Using your product knowledge and customer insights, you will help businesses understand how Square can support their growth—whether they're a small family-run shop or a large strategic retailer. You will work closely with our Sales, Marketing, and Partnerships teams, and report into the Business Development Manager, Japan. This role is based in Japan, with flexibility to work our Tokyo office, from home, or hybrid.

You Will

  • Respond to inbound leads generated through marketing, product channels, referrals, email, phone, and social media
  • Quickly determine which customers are good product fits for Square
  • Prioritize your pipeline for maximum efficiency daily
  • Understand prospective customer requirements and help craft custom solutions
  • Gain experience working with Square Sales, Marketing and Partnership teams
  • Maintain current knowledge of the global Square product ecosystem and how this may help upmarket Japanese merchants to further grow their businesses
  • Create a great first impression for prospective Square merchants by using storytelling, case studies and other materials to inspire them about how Square could benefit their businesses
  • Qualify inbound leads and schedule meetings between merchants and members of our Account Executive team
  • Represent Square and our product ecosystem in the Japanese market
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest business, industry and product trends
  • Partner with the Japanese Account Executive team to gain exposure to the sales cycle and further develop your sales experience, and learn and maintain current understanding of Japanese and global Square sales processes
  • Attain (and ideally exceed) your sales development KPIs and goals
  • Maintain accurate sales data and documentation by using tools including Salesforce

You Have

  • The ability to work with Japan-based customers in Japanese (writing and phone), and global Square colleagues in English (reading, writing and video meetings)
  • A desire to further develop your career in sales
  • A passion for technology and the industry Square operates in
  • A growth mindset, keen to be coached and developed within the role
  • Personal leadership, authenticity, a team first mentality, energy richness, curiosity
  • Some experience in a qualifying or prospecting role with the ability to conduct outbound multi-channel outreach
